BRIEF HISTORY OF GCHIP

The implementation of education and training, both academic and vocational, in Indonesia has become a national and international priority in strengthening human resources that are adaptive to rapid digital technological advancements. Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2016 on the Revitalization of Vocational High Schools (SMK) and Ministerial Regulation No. 68 of 2022 on the Alignment of Vocational Education highlight the urgency of improving vocational education quality to better respond to industrial dynamics and technological transformation.

The digital revolution is marked by the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), learning analytics, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and even the metaverse in education. This transformation demands a shift in learning systems toward more adaptive, technology-driven, and interactive models. Hybrid and immersive learning have emerged as new paradigms enabling personalized learning, enhanced engagement, and broader access to digital learning resources.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS), February 2025:
The open unemployment rate reached 4.76%, with approximately 7.28 million unemployed individuals. This reflects the urgent need to strengthen workforce competencies aligned with the demands of the digital-based industry.

At the regional level, including the Special Region of Yogyakarta, significant potential exists in creative and digital industries such as animation, application development, and digital marketing. However, these opportunities remain under-optimized due to limited digital competencies among graduates and insufficient infrastructure supporting hybrid and immersive learning ecosystems.

In response to these challenges, the Center of Excellence in Science and Technology – GCHIP (PUI-PT GCHIP) was established to bridge the gap between rapid technological advancement and the readiness of the educational ecosystem. GCHIP focuses on research, pedagogical innovation, and technological development in hybrid and immersive learning systems. By developing a robust digital learning ecosystem, GCHIP acts as a catalyst for national education transformation and contributes to the realization of Indonesia Emas 2045.
